Sick day

I stayed home from work today because of my sinus cold.  I'm glad I told work yesterday that I wouldn't be in to day because I slept in until 8:00!!!  Doesn't sound early, but I went to bed an hour earlier than I usually do, and woke up 2 hours later than I normally do, so instead of 8 hours of sleep, I got 11!  After the past few nights of restless sleep, waking every time one of the girls coughs, thinking their going to wake up, I really needed a good solid nights sleep!

Tom didn't go to school today because we were snowed in.  He has to drive an hour on a good day and judging by the foot of wet snow outside, it would have taken him forever!

Even though I was sick, I couldn't let Tom shovel the whole driveway himself, so we packed up the kids and all went outside to help.  The neighbour across the street god sick of the heavy wet snow and borrowed a tractor from someone, lol!

The girls had fun, but the snow was so deep they had a hard time moving around.  I took the time to show them how to do snow angels!  Is been probably 20 years since I've done one of those!

Another man down!

Yup. I'm sick. I'm currently carrying 10 pound bowling balls around in my sinuses and my throat is sore and dry, I'm drinking enough water to drown a fish!

So again my workout is put off, and my "scheduled run" will be delayed tomorrow because of another ill-timed snow storm!

It was weigh in today. I just weighed in, didn't stay for the meeting.  It was anybody's guess how weigh in was going to go, I wasn't expecting much as I'd stayed the same on the home scale this week, but at work today, I had quite a lot of talking to do and was chugging water like crazy, about 6 litres.  I curbed the drinking for an hour before weigh in, so I wasn't surprised when the scale said I was up 1.4 lbs.

I was curious when I got home and stepped on the scale after dinner, I was only up half a pound from this morning, so I'm guessing the water was the culprit for the weight gain and as long as I'm good this week, I'll have a good solid loss next week!

I'm sorry this post isn't well written, I'm exhausted and medicated!  Time for bed!

Busy weekend and a 3 month plan

I went out last night with my best friend Mandy, her husband and a few people they know to a "country bar" (I use that term loosely) in Hamilton.  We had a great time!  The bar played country music, but it was in a large city, and us rural folk know country bars and this wasn't!

It was a coyote ugly style bar, dancing on the Bartop and everything!  It definitely made me feel old and prudish, and I'm not either!  They even had some girls take their tops off and give body shots!!!

Yeah... Not really my thing.

We did have a great time and did a lot of dancing!  Mandy and I always have a great time together!

I've been thinking a lot about the next few months and my upcoming surgery.  I really want to get as much weight off as I can by then.  I'm not going to give myself a goal, but I want to be fitter, and a little lighter, hoping my tummy skin shrinks a little.  I am a little nervous that I'll be trying to hide my tummy once I stop having to hide my boobs!

So I'm challenging myself to get lots of activity for the next 3 months.  Whatever I can get in.  I'm going to continue with running, I really think I can do it!  I can run just short of a mile right now without much training at all, so I think I'll have a viable exercise there when the weather cooperates!  I went out today for a run, it was colder than I'd expected and my asthma really kicked up after about 15 mins, so I came inside.  I'm not upset about that at all, I ran pretty much the whole 15 minutes and was totally spent by the end of it.  I consider it a good solid workout!  When I'm not able to run, I'd like to work on strength training and core building workouts.  Mainly cross fit type workouts that I can do without going to the gym and with minimal exercise equipment.

I'll keep you posted on what I've been doing.

It's all I can think about

Since I had the consultation with the plastic surgeon on Tuesday, all I can think about is my soon to be new boobs!

If all goes as planned, I'll look like the average 20 year old just in time for a tank top filled summer!

When I think about running, besides better weather to run in, I can't wait to be able to wear cheap sports bras and not worrying about poking my own eye out!

I probably won't do a whole lot of clothes shopping before surgery, I don't see the point.  It's going to be a dramatic change and I'm sure ill need a whole lot of new clothes when I'm recovered.  I'm excited about shopping for clothes for little boobs, there are so many styles I don't even bother looking at because of the grandma boobs, most sweaters, boat neck tops, anything without a chest minimizing style really, lol!

He he. What I'd like to look like in a tank top on the left, what I end up looking like in a tank top on the right!  Seriously!

Time is passing quickly these days, so it'll be surgery day in no time!  40 days until my next appointment!  (40 days until hubby's birthday too :). He made sure I said that!

Unrecognizable

Today while at work, I brought a patient in, weighed her, chit chatted a little as we walked down to my office.  We went into the room and as I sat down, she came up to me and said "You are Eva, right?".  I said yes, she said I look so different from the last time she saw me that she couldn't be sure that it was me!  Now this woman has been a patient for 3 years and we've met several times.  It's been a few months, but wow!  I didn't think I'd be unrecognizable!  That totally made my day!  I told her I was taking that as a compliment, lol!

I must have looked great today because a couple of other patients noticed my weight loss today!

I definitely looked youthful with my princess lunchbox, lol!

I misplaced my own lunchbox over my 4 day weekend (it was in the playroom, full of miscellaneous things) so I had to improvise :). It held quite a bit!

Turkey dinner and weigh in

I figured I'd just sart another blog and let the plastic surgeon appointment have its own post :)

Yesterday Tom made me a turkey dinner!  With all the trimmings!  I tell ya, I really lucked out with this guy!  I've never had to cook a turkey dinner.  He's always done it!  And maybe it's just because I didn't make it, but his is always better than mine ever could be!

I made myself a huge plate, with everything measured out, 5oz of white meat, 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes, 1/4 cup gravy, a little bit of stuffing, plus a ton of veggies!

Zaryah was right up there looking for my carrots.  I don't know why, but she thinks my food is better than hers!

I over served myself, after eating all my veggies, I couldn't finish my turkey and I barely touched my potatoes!  Good thing I couldn't over eat, with weigh in being the next day!

Weigh in was tonight and I was down 1.2 lbs!  For a total of 84.6 lbs lost!  I hit a new decade too!  I'm now officially in the 160's!!! Woo hoo!  I don't even remember being in the 160's.  I remember being 150 lbs one summer when I was 20-21, and I remember being 172 lbs briefly at a physical, my doctor warning me of further weight gain, this is new territory for me :).

Breast reduction appointment #1

I met with Dr Shortt, the plastic surgeon I'd been referred to, today. It was nerve wracking!  We got there a half an hour early, with sufficient time to seriously get me anxious!  All sorts of thoughts were going through my head!

The office is in a posh medical building and they do a whole bunch of cosmetic procedures there.  There's a lot of money that goes in and out of that place!  Even the hand soap and lotion in the bathroom was designer!  The desk staff were humans though and were very friendly!  I don't know what I was expecting, but I was pleasantly surprised!

When we got into the examination room, the doctor let me talk about my reasons for wanting surgery, a thorough history taking, a good discussion on why I'm a good candidate etc..  Then he left the room so I could get into a gown.  He was thorough but respectful, pointing out asymmetry he'd fix, discussed my side boob area, he said theres not much fat there, but if we see the need for it at the time, he'll do lipo in that area to fix that bit.  im not too concerned about the side boob, theyre almost gone now!   he said that i might not even need it with a few more pounds lost!  He examined the lump I drew his attention to on my right breast (I've already had a mammo and its nothing). He wants to have a look at my mammogram results and if he's not happy with what it says, he wants to do another mammo to make sure it's really nothing.  I like that.  Makes me feel like he really cares about the little things.  He seemed like he really loves his job, not that he's all about the money.

He says I'm a great candidate for a breast reduction and he says we'll have no trouble getting it covered by Ontario Health Insurance!

While I was undressed I asked him to look at the loose belly skin, apron etc.  he thinks I'd benefit from a tummy tuck or circumferential body lift.  He's done a lot of research and training in body contouring after significant weight loss and its his area of interest. So I'm really with the right guy!  He says that my loose skin will get worse over the next bit, but a lot will change with another 20 pounds off.  He says I should really think about it, but I should come back after about 6 months at my goal weight.  He wouldn't go into cost of that, saying its based on time in the OR. How much sculpting he needs to do, and the cost would differ depending on if it were a simple tummy tuck or a full body lift.  I know I'll need a full body lift, just based on sag, lol!

Once I was dressed he brought me into his office and went over the surgery, techniques that he uses when someone has sag factor (pretty much a breast lift).  He went over little inns he does to keep the scars minimal without sacrificing shape.  He made a point in saying that he really wanted me happy with the end result.

I have another appointment in 6 weeks where we'll go over what OHIP says, mammo results etc. and book the surgery!  He said they're booking April now, so it'll probably be in May!

I felt like I left with no questions!  Which is rare for me!  Usually I leave a doctors office with more questions than I came in with!

T-minus 2 days

I'm getting excited and nervous to meet the surgeon.

I'm excited to see what he says, excited to know when the surgery will be, nervous that he'll say he can't do anything for me, that OHIP won't cover it, nervous that I'm still too fat, or that I've lost too much and now won't qualify.  I'm nervous that I'd still be a candidate but that surgery won't be booked for months and months, or that I need to come back for another visit before he'll book anything.  Pretty much I'm nervous about anything happening that would mean I'm not having a Breast reduction.

Since I decided to have one, its all I can think about. Every time I look at myself, it's the huge saggy tits that I see. I just want them gone!  I want to be able to buy cheap bras from Walmart. I want to be able to run without an underwire bra, 2 super duty sports bras, tank top with a shelf bra, duct tape and whatever else to hold them still!

I want to be able to buy clothes that fit, button up tops that don't gape, pretty page tops that don't just hang off my boobs making the rest of me look bigger, I want to be able to wear v neck tops without showing x rated cleavage.  I want to be able to wear lingerie, I've never been able to wear lingerie, even when I was skinny, I couldn't find ones that fit my boobs.

I know it'll all be fine. I'll have no trouble getting it covered and I'll most likely have surgery in late spring/ early summer. I'm just nervous!  I want this so bad!

I'm going to ask his opinion on skin removal surgery as well...  That's also making me nervous...  I reall hope he's talkative and approachable. I've heard good things about him and have high hopes!

2 more sleeps!

Valentina's Day 2012 vs 2013

Last night was date night!  Hence the lack of post!

We went to Red Lobster, then to the movies to see Django unchained.

At red lobster I did really well!  Usually we would order calamari and split that, then we'd both get the Ultimate Feast, Tom and I would trade, he'd take both lobster tails (his favorite), I'd take both crab legs (my favorite). It would be served with garlic shrimp and a bunch of fried shrimp, rice, veggies and a baked potato. It would also get cheddar bay biscuits and a salad. A ton of food!

Yesterday I ordered something different!  Lobster stuffed tilapia!

No idea on the points, so I guesstimated :) (not my picture)

We did get the calamari, but it wasn't very good, they changed the recipe. So I didn't eat much of it. I did have one cheddar bay biscuit and a garden salad, but I probably used about a third of the points as I usually would have!

Tom took another picture of me across the table, just as he did on Valentine's day a year ago.

I cried. When I put the two pictures side by side!  I can't believe that that's me!  Either of them!  I'm just so proud of myself for losing the weight!  Excuse the boobs...

Speaking of though, here's the view from my perspective. With a view like this, no wonder I'm getting a reduction!  I'm just not a boob girl!

Happy Valentine's Day!

I've had a pretty good day today, a little more over ponts than I'd like, but not too bad.  I tried a new Greek yogurt, coconut flavour, it was pretty good!  The black cherry be s still my favourite though.
I did have 4 points worth of chocolate, but if you'd sen my work today, you'd think I did good only having that!. I had my usual breakfast, a sweet onion teriyaki sub for lunch and a yummy dinner.

Home made turkey/beef burgers and sweet potato fries with salad!

Hubby brought home a bottle of wine, so I had a good glass. :).

Tomorrow is date night!  Woo hoo!

It's not even Valentine's Day yet!

The temptation is killing me!

I had my normal breakfast, healthy lunch, then a half slice of lemon loaf (gift from patient), chocolate covered strawberry (gift from patient), 2 two bite brownies with icing ( why did I buy those for the kids!!!).  Junk all told, totals 9 points of crap!

So what did I do about it?  I sat in bed watching biggest loser. Then I got out of bed and did 20 minutes of hard core whole body workout!  I know it doesn't look like much, and it doesn't add up to 20 mins, but these are hard!  And I had to cat h my breath and change positions between exercises :)

My butt and legs are so weak now!  They were chalking as I went downstairs!

I added this into the sister challenge, still in the lead!

So tomorrow is straight and narrow day, Tom and I have date night Friday!  Gotta conserve the points!

Missed it by thaaat much!

My next goak that is!  I missed it by 0.1 pound!  My current goal is to hit 169.9 and be out of the 170's.  I stepped on the scale at weigh in tonight and was 170.0.  Seriously!  the moment wasn't wasted though!  I'm down 1.8!  For a total of 83.4 lbs lost!

I can't help but count down :P  Only 24 pounds to goal, 16.6 lbs until I hit 100 pounds lost!  Holy crap!  I'm on my game right now!  The fact that 100 pounds is that close has really got me thinking and dreaming.  I want to get there soon!

Which brings me to the activity challenge with my sisters.  I'm in the lead!

With the ice around here I haven't run since last week.  Hopefully I'll be able to get out tomorrow or Thursday.  I'm supposed to be going slow, but I'm itching to really get moving!  Settling for walking and some at home body weight exercises.  My plank is at 35 seconds and I'll be raising that to 40 seconds in the next few days!

As most people know these days now, today is Pancake Tuesday!  Even though I'm not a practicing catholic and don't participate in lent, I certainly do mark this day with pancakes!  (and bacon, can't forget the bacon)

Birthday party!

We had Lara's swimming birthday party today and it went well!  We had a great turn out, about 45 people, 12 kids. So much fun!  Lara is a little fish in the water, put a life jacket on her and she is content to kick and dog paddle on her own!

Here's the cake I made :). I only had one small piece! It was so tasty!

I'm leading the activity challenge still :). Most of it was from shovelling snow...

Still working on a way to copy my food log. I'll get there...

Size ten!!! And cake :)

I went shopping today. I'm hesitant these days to spend much money on myself, especially on clothes!  For many reasons!  I'm not down to the size I want yet, my boobs are going to be changing shortly, and my brain hasn't caught up with my body's weight loss yet.    Well I have quite a lot of gift certificates to my favourite clothing store, and they sent me a 40% off coupon, so I really couldn't pass it up!

I had success!  Big success!  I tried on a nice satiny shirt in a size 12 (saying to the girl "I think I'm a 12 now". Praying it would fit) and it was actually kinda big!!!

This is the 12.

I ended up getting it in a ten because I really liked it. Even though it really didn't fit the boobs, but they're going to shrink, so I'm calling the shirt " my post boob job goal top!"

I got another top, a couple of necklaces and a pair of...

SIZE TEN PANTS!!!

I left a happy lady!

I've been really good with activity, this challenge between my sisters and I has really kicked my butt!
Another 55 mins of shovelling today keeps me in the lead!

I haven't figured out how to copy my food log, but i promise i will start again soon!

I'm currently in the middle of baking and decorating a birthday cake for Lara's birthday party tomorrow!  Gotta run!

Has weight watchers changed your life?

I was on the weight watchers message boards yesterday and saw an ad on the side that said "Has Weight Watchers changed your life?  Share your success story!"  It's really given me a kick in the butt! I really want to share my success story!

So here's how Weight Watchers has changed my life so far :)

Weight watchers has changed my life incredibly!  I run up the stairs because my body wants to, I skip up curbs, run because I want to, look forward to shovelling, my bp is better, I'm no longer staring down diabetes, My chronic pain is almost gone, my hair, skin, nails are healthy, I sleep better, I don't snore anymore, people think I'm a kid when I'm 34 (this is my favourite one:) People don't stare at me when I run, I have 10 other people who have signed up with weight watchers because I've inspired them (including my boss!) I feel normal.  I can play with my kids, I join in instead of sitting on the sidelines.  And so much more!!!

Here's another way Weight Watchers has changed my life...

Holy crap!  Can't be afraid to show my licence now!

So we got snowed in.  I'm a Nurse and really, I live 3 blocks away from work, so I went.  I shovelled the driveway again...

Then I walked to work...  I had to trudge through foot deep snow for 20 mins.  Bt the time I got to work I was totally spent!  That was the hardest workout I've had to date!  Honestly!

It was so cold that I ended up getting hives all over my legs!

Thankfully my office is in the Superstore and I was able to buy a pair of dry pants and socks.  It was really casual friday!  I bought sweatpants!  They were cheap!

My hubby surprised me, in true impatient Tom fashion, he gave me my Valentine's Day present a week early!  A new iPad Mini!!!  My laptop is dying and have been making due, so he surprised me at work when he came to pick me up!  He's so awesome!

Here's a pic of me blogging tonight!  It's going to take some getting used to, but it'll be easy once I get the hang of it,  took me 2 hours to get to this point!!!

I'm leading so far in the activity challenge!  Thanks to shovelling and my hairy walk to work!

Snowed in?

So we're most likely getting snowed in tonight.  No biggie, shovelling snow earns a lot of activity points!  Which have been put to good use... I had McDonald's tonight.

I'm doing pretty good in my activity challenge!  I did my 35 second plank this morning, went for a walk on my lunch, then shovelled the driveway tonight after the kids were in bed.  I'm in the lead!

So I got my tax return and have a bit of cash to spend on myself!  Besides some new shoes that I really need, and a trip to the thrift store, I have no clue what I'm going to do with it!

Besides the McDonald's, I did well food wise today, I even avoided some treats!

Activity challenge

My 2 weight watcher's going sisters and I are in an activity challenge and I'm going to keep them honest!  I'm posting our stats on here!  I know, I'm sneaky!  But I love a little healthy competition and I really need to get a move on to get these last pounds off!  I really need a good downslide!

Looks like Becky is winning today :)

This morning I did 25 squats, 20 oblique crunches, a 35 second bridge and a 35 second plank (up from 30).  Then I went for a 10 minute walk/jog (going slow remember) after work.

This was the first time I'd ever run in below freezing temperatures.  I really think I need to get some real "cold weather gear".  Even 10 minutes at -7 celcius made it's mark!

The red swollen bands aren't caused by my socks!  The red bands are swollen skin that was exposed to air where socks or sweatpants weren't covering.  It hurt for a bit!!!

After I had a nice long hot shower, Tom and kids were "doing exercises"

My husband didn't have much time to workout, so he improvised :)  The kids thought it was a fun game and he was exhausted afterwards!!!

We're expecting a big snowstorm over the next 2 days.  Usually it passes us by, but they're promising a major snowfall for tomorrow evening.

I'll get some serious activity minutes shovelling!

Food wise I actually kept to 26 points.  That almost never happens!  Usually I average about 28-32 points in a day.  I definitely don't want to keep this up, I felt hungry quite a bit in the afternoon and was ravenous before dinner!

Weigh in day, planned binge and a plan

Weigh in was tonight and, as expected, I gained.  0.6 lbs.  For a total loss of 81.6 lbs.  25.8 left to lose.  I'm not too worried or upset about that, I've added exercise back in this week after a 9 week hiatus.  A gain is to be expected!

Now that I've gotten the permission to run again, I'm itching to get out there and itching to get whatever activity I can in this week!  My sisters and I have a challenge going on to see who can get in the most activity minutes in by next weigh in.  I'm still doing a plank a day for 30 seconds and will try to add another 5 seconds to my thirty this week.  I'm doing core work and squats most days, walking when I can and now running (going slowly of course).

Now to explain the planned binge.  Every once in a while my system needs a reset, so to say.  If I've been plateau-ing or have been really good and still gain, I find a good day of high calories followed by a couple of days of strict control.  I've even heard this come from the mouth of a nutritionist and doctor.  The high calorie followed by a low calorie day "resets" the system. I think the mood reset of it helps too.  One day to "get it out of my system".  And I've seen this work in my own body a few times over the past 16 months.

Or maybe I just needed an excuse to eat a burger and chips and chocolate.  Believe what you want! :)

So I had a very busy day at work today...yeah not really.  This was the highlight of my day!

It's always a good day when Miss Aurora comes to visit Auntie at work!

Good news

I got good news at Physio today!  I'm allowed to run again!  Now if onlu the weathe rwould co-operate!  Now I don't mind running in the cold, you warm up after all, the problem is my lungs mind, I haven't found a way to cure asthma unfortunately!  So anything below -5ish degrees celcius and I'm in trouble.  I'm just not allowed, Tom would seriously kill me!  Hopefully I'll get out in the next few days when the weather is milder.

That's celcius btw for my friends south of the border, about 21-28 degrees fahrenheit.

Well I'm nearly graduated from Physio.  Only a couple more visits and hopefully I'll be done for good!  Not that I don't like Kristy, but seriously, I'm done now, lol!

One thing that I have learned being out of comission the past 2+ months.  I really can't do this without exercise.  My lean body mass has gone down, my stamina has shrunk and I've only lost 5 pounds since November 24th.  I need to exercise!

I'm really looking forward to a fresh start.  I'm slowly starting a morning routine of core work and butt exercises, hoping to add some upper body exercises in (as if I don't do enough kid-lugging), that coupled with running again,I've got a nice balance in the works.  Hopefully the rest of this weight will drop off.

Weigh in is tomorrow and the scale shows I'm up 2 pounds on the home scale.  My guess as to the culprit, too much salt and added activity.  I have some sore muscles from my daily planks and squats!

Sunday

I see Physio again tomorrow and I'm still hoping for some good news on the running front, of course it's so freaking cold and I've no access to a treadmill, I'm not sure I'll be running this week anyways.  With my physio saying I need to strengthen my core, I've been doing some stuff to start that going.    I'm able (barely) to do 30 seconds in a proper plank!  I've challenged myself to a plank a day and have done a 30 second plank the past 3 days!

Tom and I got out for a quick 1/2 hour walk to the mall and back at a very brisk pace!  I always feel like my legs are going a mile a minute and Tom is barely walking, lol!  He's a full foot taller than I am and I run compared to his walk, lol!  Made for a good workout for me though!

I made home made meatballs for the first time today and they turned out really good!  We had them on crusty buns with marinara sauce and cheese.  They were awesome!

That's about a third of what I made, I didn't even get a picture of the meatball subs made, we demolished them!  Zaryah had eaten 4 of the meatballs before I was even done cooking the whole batch!  Even for her that's a lot, they're just less an ounce of meat each!

Tom made the marinara and I asked him what he put in it and he said crushed tomatoes and spices.  Sorry, that's all you get!  I tried!

I can't believe that the weekend is over already!  The weeks go fast though and next weekend is Lara's pool party!  That's going to be a test, I have to make her a birthday cake and those are my weakness!  I think I know how I'm going to spend the extra points I'll get when maintaining, on baking again!  I miss it, but baking isn't conducive to weight loss!

A much needed visit

Looks like my post from Friday went missing!  I don't know what happened!  Well the gist of friday, I had a great day eating, started a challenge to do some core work, did a 30 second plank!  And I found hubby's wedding ring!  We nearly threw it out with the trash!  Thank God I brought the garbage back from the curb or else we'd have lost it forever!  It was in the 3rd bag I'd examined meticulously!

Last night we went to my best friends place for dinner.  Mandy and I have been friends since early high school and did everything together for years until kids and careers got in the way.  Now we don't see each other often, but when we do, it's as if we'd never been apart and we crave more!

She was my maid of honour :)

We are each others child's God parents and the kids got along so well!  My God-daughter Maddy asked if she could keep Lara!  We are looking forward to spending more time together, pretty soon I'll be husband free some nights and will crave adult conversation and will probably be getting together with Mandy and her kids more often!

They were destined to be friends from the start!  Only 3 weeks apart, My Lara is the teeny one on the right.

One thing about Mandy, I learned to drink with her and the urge to let the taps flow was strong in me last night!  I can see how I'll be maintaining once I hit goal, lol!  I had one drink and that was it, though Tom was certainly indulging!

She's one of the best people to party with!

We had Spaghetti with meat sauce and I (was supposed to bring salad but forgot it at home) brought home made crepes with light cool whip, bananas and chocolate sauce.  Wouldn't have been too bad on points, but I had two of them :P

I used a bunch of weekly points, but I'd saved them knowing I'd be using a bunch last night.  (Smart huh? :P)

Yesterday morning I continued with my activity challenge and did another 30 second plank!  I shake like crazy, but I can do it!  Elbows and toes, not even on my knees!  Yay me!
